At South West Tool Hire, we are proud to support projects that make a real difference in the communities we serve.
Most recently, we were delighted to help Bin the Blade with a volunteer-led project in Leinster Avenue, Knowle, where an old telephone box is being restored and transformed into a medical station containing a bleed cabinet and a defibrillator.
The work was supported by employees from LJ Guyan Funeral Service, with volunteers sanding and painting the telephone box to give it a new purpose as a community medical station, complete with a bleed cabinet and defibrillator.
LJ Guyan said South West Tool Hire “came to our rescue” after the team were let down on the tools they needed, and thanked our Operations Manager, Richard Hughes, for loaning the equipment free of charge from the Bristol depot.

Supporting a charity that is making a real impact
Our support for this latest project builds on our wider backing for the Daniel Baird Foundation, which alongside Leanne Reynolds, runs the Bin the Blade initiative.
Established in memory of Daniel Baird, the foundation was created to raise awareness about knife crime and promote preventative measures for safer communities. Its work focuses on education, community engagement and supporting violence reduction initiatives, while also helping improve access to life-saving bleed control equipment in public places.
That is a cause we are proud to support. It is about raising awareness, supporting communities and helping put practical measures in place that could help save someone’s life in an emergency.
Providing the necessary tools to get the job done
Community projects like the restoration of the Knowle telephone box into a medical station rely on people giving their time, effort and skills to create something valuable for the area around them. Sometimes, having the right tools at the right moment is what keeps that work moving.
Richard Hughes, Regional Sales, H&S and Operations Manager at South West Tool Hire, said:

“We are proud to support Bin the Blade and the Daniel Baird Foundation because their work is about making communities safer and putting practical help in place where it can really matter. If we can step in and provide the tools to help a project like this move forward, we are happy to do it.”
What this means for the charity
Once complete, the restored telephone box will provide the community with potentially life-saving equipment to help save local lives.
As well as creating access to a bleed cabinet and defibrillator, the project helps raise awareness of the charity’s wider message and the importance of having emergency equipment available where it can be reached quickly. It is another practical step in supporting safer communities and extending the reach of the charity’s work.
At South West Tool Hire, we are proud to have helped with a project that gives an old local landmark a new purpose, and one that could have a real impact when it matters most.
